There was a saying in the description of the British Empire -"The empire on which the sun never sets". That means, they ruled the whole world.
This became the reason that people started to know English language almost all over the world ,

What is the role of English language in the history of India.

Rise as British Raj
In 1612 the East India Company (which was under Britain) came to India for the purpose of trade and by 1757 they had established their complete rule over India.
After that, many missionaries came to India to spread Christianity. And established institutes for education here. Where they started propagating Christianity through the English medium.

How English medium came into the india education system?
Disturbed by the increasing conversion efforts of the missionaries, the citizens of India started a rebellion.
In 1813 the matter was taken up in the British Parliament where the responsibility of the Indian education system was entrusted to the government.
Things happened after that which  changed the culture of India completely.
In 1834, Lord Macaulay came as a law member of the Governor General's Council.
Who laid the foundation for how the British education system in India is modernized by boycotting the Gurukul education system
And in 1835, the English Education Act 1835 passed which became our education system.

Why English language is poor in India?
Political reasons
Indian became independent from the British in 1947, after which Hindi was made our national language. And then Hindi became the fundamental basis of our education system made by the British. Due to which the importance of English was reduced first in the education sector and then in the employment sector.

- Social reason
There are 121 languages spoken in India, out of which 21 are the main languages along with Hindi. 96.71% of the population in the country has one of these 22 main languages as their mother tongue.

-Scientific reason
Let's understood this  in the language of science: -
which includes English.
A Psychological Research states that: -
"A man as much away from any language, the language is that much far away from it".
Every citizen of India have mother tongue as their primary language, which is their local language, then Hindi (the national language) as their secondary language, and after then the other language comes.
With this you must have understood the importance of English language in Indian society.
This has been some of the main reasons that English communication in India is weak.

English as problem
The weakness became a problem when
Foreign companies came into the country after 1991 globalization and domestic companies reached abroad.
Which made India an international market, and  because of this employment opportunities were generated, and english communication started to be needed somewhere for this employment. Its not an only problem for the employment sector, but also for the education sector, because of this language, the results of children are getting spoiled and people are not getting good jobs.
